After months of being one of the most-requested features, dark mode is finally live on MicroTools. Whether you're coding late at night, reducing eye strain, or just prefer a darker interface — we've got you covered.
🌙 What's included
- Full dark palette applied across the entire site — every page, every tool, every component.
- Auto-detects your system preference (prefers-color-scheme) on first visit — no setup needed.
- Moon / Sun toggle in the header switches between dark and light instantly.
- Your choice is saved in localStorage and restored on every return visit.
- Zero flash on load — a tiny inline script applies the dark class before the page renders, so there's no white flicker.
- Mobile-friendly: the toggle is also available in the mobile menu.
🎨 Design decisions
We didn't want to just invert the colors. The dark theme uses a carefully chosen zinc/gray palette — dark enough to reduce glare, but with enough contrast to keep everything readable. Cards, inputs, borders, and text all have dedicated dark values. Tool previews, charts, and modals each got individual attention.
- Page background: near-black zinc-950 (#09090b).
- Cards and surfaces: zinc-900 (#18181b) — slightly elevated from the page bg.
- Borders: zinc-700 (#3f3f46) — visible but subtle.
- Text: zinc-50 primary, zinc-400 secondary — high contrast without being harsh white.
- Hero gradient: deep navy (gray-900 → gray-950) instead of the light blue-to-white.
- Streak widget, icon library modal, and all overlays updated for dark mode.
